Hello to WS 450 in Cyberfeminisms. This is my first blog over the internet, I never done this before. I am trying to be creative here and hope I'll change my blog to my personality.
Last week, I came across CNN on tv and they were showing a topic on young women in Afghanistan. The title was "Lifting the Veil", it talked about Afghanistan women living in their country and how the culture is affecting women society. I got to watch one part where a young girl was sold into marriage by her father. Her father had a gambling debt so he sold his daughter. She was 7 years old when she was sold and got married at the age of 14. During the interview, she mention that she burned herself because people in her village were critisizing her and her family about the marriage. The young girl could not take it anymore, so she wanted to dye by burning herself. The interview led to any discussion about Afghanistan men on how they feel about women. The discussion was interesting because one young men mention that he would not bring out his wife to be introduce to his friends. He would lock her up and leave her in the room. In the country, other people had different views about women like a village in the country. A old man that had 4 daughters and he was the land owner of the village. His wife was killed during the war and he was put in prison for 5 years. He mention that he would like to see his younger daughter become a doctor and help her people in the village. His other daughters got married and are raising a family of their own. I would say that people living in the country are alittle more respectful for women than people living in the city of Afghanistan. One thing that was mention was that there is a Constitution for the people, but nobody follows the Constitution, especially if it relates to women rights.
